Torrance has one of the largest Japanese American communities in the mainland United States. Japanese automakers helped shape it: Toyota kept its American headquarters here for decades before moving to Texas in 2017, and Honda still bases its American operations in the city. Japanese markets, bakeries and ramen shops are a regular part of the local streetscape.
